Club History
Kinross Road Runners were formed in September 1985. After the 2nd Loch Leven Half Marathon (then organised by the Kinross Tourist Association), Martin Mather and his wife Alison decided it would be a good idea to form a running club in Kinross and area. They wrote a letter to all the local entrants of the Half Marathon, and delivered it round the doors in Kinross, Kelty and area. The letter suggested that a local running club would meet a demand in the community.
Other founder members of the club were Terry Quigley, John Barclay, Jock Hargreaves, Michael Hughes, Graham Hartley, Jean Smith, Bill Nouillan, Alison Mather. The first meeting took place at the Tourist Association Offices at Turfhills, Granada, and it was decided to call the club Kinross Road Runners.
Over the years the club has grown from strength to strength. We now have around 100 active members in the club who participate in a variety of distances from 5k parkruns on a weekly basis through to Ultra Marathons.

Club Standards
The Kinross Road Runners Club Standards are a set of target times for members to aspire to over 6 race distances. They allow members to challenge themselves to set new pb's and see what can be achieved.
The Standards are set in age group bands, meaning you can record times across multiple years while you are within any set age category to achieve the required times. Prizes will be awarded annually at Presentation Dinner.

Club Championship Rules
Kinross Road Runners operate four Club Championships which take place at external events each year. To be included, members must have entered the qualifying championship event with Kinross Road Runners as their designated club. Participants are expected to wear club colours when taking part in championship events. Only First Claim club members will qualify for prizes.
Club Championship Criteria & Scoring
You must complete a minimum of 5 from the 12 available races in order to complete the championship and qualify for any prizes.
The scoring system for the club championship will see your race times converted to a 10K equivalency and adjusted for course difficulty/ terrain/ conditions etc using the RunBritain standard scratch score (SSS) for that given race. Where no SSS is available, the race will be recorded with an SSS score of 0. The best aggregate adjusted time from 5 race results wins. (Just run as fast as you can and we'll do the rest).
[The 2023 WAVA championship will be calculated using these results. Your age on the day counts.]
Off Road/ Hill Running Championship Criteria & Scoring
You must complete a minimum of 5 from the 12 available races in order to complete the championship and qualify for any prizes.
The scoring system for the off road/ hill championship will be a first past-the-post points system; with 1 point awarded to the 1st male KRR & 1st female KRR to complete the race; 2 points to the 2nd; 3 points to the 3rd and so on. 15th male or female KRR and above to finish in a race will be awarded 20 points. Non-runners score 25 points. The lowest combined score from 5 race results wins. In the event of a tie in points the most number of events completed will be used. If that is still tied then head to-head score will be used. All runners who complete one or more races will be ranked, but your position will be limited with 25 points scored for each of the 5 you do not complete.
Pippa Coutts Virtual Club Championship
You must complete a minimum of 5 from the 7 available virtual races to qualify for any prizes.
Each month from March to September a different local (mainly off-road) running route will be designated as a virtual race event with the route to be completed anytime within that calendar month. Run the route as many times as you like, recce it, run it solo or as a group, whatever you like. Submit your best GPS recorded time over the route at the end of the month.
How to register your run:
Staying safe in the hills:
The virtual championship routes will be deliberately tricky and take you to paths that you would be unlikely to have visited previously. The routes are designed to be a test of physicality and navigation skills without being unachievable. Overarchingly they should introduce club members to more of the fantastic trails around our beautiful home.
As a result, you will be heading out into challenging terrain and should be appropriately equipped to do so. We strongly advise that you ensure you are prepared for the conditions on the day and that you carry the Scottish Hill Runners recommended kit with you at all times. This means windproof and waterproof full body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, food, and any other items you deem necessary for your protection. Ultimately you are responsible for your own safety and should be prepared for the adventure you're setting out on.
Finally, given that the routes run for a month conditions can change. Efforts are made to ensure the routes are safely passable, but you may encounter livestock, forestry, or other changeable obstacles. Every care should be taken to both minimise any impact that you have on the surroundings and to ensure your safety, even if this means abandoning your attempt. Where any permanent obstacles (like path closures) appear, every effort will be made to offer an alternative route.
Scoring:
It is your elapsed time that counts.
